Five hotel gyms offering more than just dumbells

A little exercise goes a long way and it's important to stay healthy on the road. But when working out at the hotel gym feels tired, business travellers can check out the various fitness classes on offer at the facility for something different. Here are five hotels that  provide a choice of fitness sessions to in-house guests:

BURJ AL ARAB

Special offering: Spinning classes

This luxury hotel's Assawan Spa and Health Club offers spinning classes exclusively for guests staying at the hotel or members of the fitness centre. Other classes include yoga and pilates. The schedule changes each week. 

 

 

FAIRMONT BEIJING

Special offering: Tai chi classes

The hotel, which opened in 2009 and has become one of Beijing’s landmarks with its renowned rose-gold façade, has an in-house tai chi master. Though there are no scheduled classes, the master holds classes upon request in Ritan Park (weather permitting), a park that dates back to 1530, originally built as a temple to the sun god.

J W MARRIOTT BANGKOK

Special offering: Thai boxing classes

The gym at this flagship hotel provides guests with a punchy experience by running regular muay thai classes, the traditional Thai combat sport. The facility offers several other classes including Aqua Aerobics and Zumba. Schedules are changed and updated every month.

LANDMARK MANDARIN ORIENTAL

Special offering: Yoga classes

In the heart of Hong Kong’s financial hub, the Landmark Mandarin Oriental offers different styles of yoga to awaken spirits and encourage a sense of well-being. Though the hotel focuses on Astanga yoga, taught by Sri K Pattabhi Jois, other styles including Hatha and Mysore are also offered alongside "dynamic flow" and "yoga gently".

WESTIN BUND CENTER, SHANGHAI

Special offering: RunWESTIN

For those who prefer a breath of fresh air in the great outdoors, they can join the "running concierge" at select Westin properties around the world. At this property, every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning, the dedicated service leads groups of runners or individual runners along custom 5km or 8km routes while sharing interesting facts about the city. The team also provides custom running maps wth detailed directions for those who rather explore alone.
