Singapore Airlines (SIA) will be offering passengers e-Magazines, electronic versions of international publications, on selected inflight entertainment systems.
The new feature, rolled out this month across the carrier’s fleet of Airbus A380 and Boeing B777-300ER, will consist of 20 titles, including Bloomberg Businessweek, Wall Street Journal Magazine, Prestige and Elle Magazine.
The innovation follows the successful trial of electronic versions of the carrier’s own inflight magazines, such as SilverKris, which were implemented in July 2010. Eventually, the feature will be expanded to cover more titles as well as e-newspapers and e-books, and will progressively be implemented on the A330-300 and A340-500 aircraft.
This new development reflects SIA's continuous efforts to keep its onboard services ahead of the curve. In March, the carrier also implemented a news ticker service on its B777-300ER aircraft IFE systems, providing passengers the latest headlines from Channel NewsAsia and Agence France-Presse (AFP). This feature, like the e-Magazines, will also eventually be rolled out across all aircraft.
