The big picture: San Francisco Airport gears up for first flights from T2

13 Apr 2011 by BusinessTraveller

Flights from San Francisco International Airport's renovated Terminal 2 will commence tomorrow (April 14), with 3.2 million passengers expected to use the facility in its first full year of operations, and a total capacity for 5.5 million travellers.

The original Terminal 2 (which served international flights) closed in December 2000, and the new buidling will be home to domestic services from American Airlines and Virgin America. There are a total of 14 gates serving mainly narrow body aircraft, but capable of accommodating Boeing 747-400s.

T2 will offer over 30,000 square feet of retail space, including 12 restaurants, nine stores, and a “gourmet marketplace with a wine bar”, and spa facilities.

Other features include a pedstrian bridge to the AirTran service, connecting to the city’s Bay Area Rapid Transit, eco-friendly services including paperless ticketing and preferential parking for hybrid cars.
