Bmi says it is the first UK-based airline to offer deals through Groupon, a popular website offering deals at discounted prices.
Followers of Groupon’s daily deals will this week receive an offer to fly business class (return) from Heathrow or Manchester to Basel for £149, or Heathrow to Vienna for £169. Subscribers must first pay £25 for the “group coupon” that unlocks the deal.
Taking the example of Heathrow to Basel, the starting return fare in March is £249 giving a saving of £75.
The coupon is valid for bookings made up until March 29, for travel taken up to and including June 30. A total of 2,000 coupons will be made available, and the discounted fare includes all taxes and charges.
Groupon, somewhat of an online phenomenon with six million subscribers, sells coupons that guarantee a discount only if enough people sign up. Typical offers include discounted hotel stays, spa treatments and restaurants.
