All Nippon Airways (ANA) has launched daily flights between Manila and Tokyo's Narita Airport, departing from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 – the first foreign carrier to do so out of the controversial facility.
Legal battles, bureaucratic red tape and safety issues have delayed the completion and launch of the terminal several times. In July 2008, it finally opened for business, with Cebu Pacific Airways setting up domestic operations there. Philippine Airlines’ subsidiaries Air Philippines and PAL Express followed suit.
Cebu Pacific started up international flights from T3 in August 2008.
Japanese firm Takenaka Corporation, employed by the Philippine government to complete the unfinished section of the building so as to prepare for full commercial operations by the year-end, gave the go signal for ANA to depart from T3.
