Aerosvit Ukranian launches Gatwick-Kiev route

3 Mar 2011 by BusinessTraveller

The carrier has launched a five-times weekly service to the Ukranian capital, joining BA, Ukraine International Airlines and Wizzair all serving Kiev from London.

Flight VV226 will depart Gatwick on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 1350, landing in Kiev at 1915, with the London-bound flight (VV225) departing the Ukraine at 1120, landing at Gatwick at 1250.

Aerosvit is one of two Ukranian flag carriers, the other being Ukraine International Airlines, which also currently serves the Gatwick-Kiev route daily. A spokesperson for Gatwick said that the Ukraine International Airlines will continue to operate flights from the airport.

BA flies daily to Kiev from Heathrow, while low-cost carrier Wizzair offers a three-times weekly service from Luton. Bmi launched flights to the Ukranian capital from Heathrow in 2009, but these were dropped in early 2010 (see online news November 25, 2009).
