Fairmont chain continues path of expansion

2 Mar 2011

Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, whose porfolio includes several flagship properties such as the Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai, The Plaza in New York and The Savoy in London, is planning debuts in Egypt, India, the Philippines and Saudi Arabia.

Poised to open this year is the group’s first property on the subcontinent – the 248-room Fairmont Jaipur. Close to the cultural landmark, Amber Fort, it will boast a 4,505sqm convention centre accommodating over 1,000 guests and feature a 929sqm spa, a 464sqm fitness centre and a swimming pool, along with several dining options.

The chain will then add to its small but growing collection of Fairmont residences, by opening in Cairo later this year. The 21-unit product in the commercial Zamalek District on the banks of the Nile River will offer guests one- and two-bedroom apartments each with a terrace.

Next year, the group launches a second property in Hyderabad, known as India's "Silicon Valley". The 350-room hotel will come with several meeting spaces, including a ballroom for up to 800 guests. Recreational facilities include a pool, dining options and a spa.

Manila also provides a new frontier for Fairmont, with the 300-room Fairmont Makati opening around the same period and featuring the Fairmont Gold executive floor. Located near the Philippine Stock Exchange, it will cater to business travellers providing them meeting spaces. For their leisure, an outdoor pool, a spa and fitness centre will be available.

Finally, as reported by Business Traveller earlier this month (see story here), the group will also manage the 287-room Fairmont Riyadh Business Gate, which is scheduled to open at the end of 2012. The hotel will be part of a multipurpose complex housing likewise a 4,000sqm convention centre and office spaces.
