Middle East Airlines - Air Liban joins SkyTeam

1 Mar 2011

Middle East Airlines – Air Liban (MEA), Lebanon’s flagship carrier, signed an agreement today to join the SkyTeam alliance in 2012, making it the second carrier from the Middle East to join the alliance after Saudi Arabian Airlines (see story here).

MEA has continued to improve its products and services to customers and has successfully concluded a restructuring plan intended to modernize and restructure the airline. Key elements of this plan included fleet renewal and rationalization, increasing the density of the carrier’s European, Middle East and West African network and improving product quality and consistency. Currently, the carrier has a total fleet of 15 aircraft including Airbus A330-200s, A321-200s and A320-200s.

Mohamad El-Hout, chairman and director general of MEA, said: “MEA being relatively a small airline, will now be able to provide its customers an extensive global network covering Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. MEA customers will benefit from SkyTeam members‚ loyalty programmes as well as SkyTeam lounges at all airports worldwide.”
