Virgin Blue launches designer uniforms

23 Feb 2011 by AndrewGough

Elle Macpherson joined Virgin Blue cabin crew on the catwalk to launch the airline’s new range of designer uniforms.

Virgin Blue said the “striking purple and red” uniforms, by Australian designer Juli Grbac, marked the start of a “series of exciting changes” to take place over the next two years.

Cabin crew won’t be the only ones heading to work in designer gear – Virgin Blue’s pilots will get new black and white uniforms, with male and female pilots wearing ties and scarves respectively.

The airline also hinted at “enhanced levels of guest service and a new range of products and services”, however details are yet to be revealed.

Juli Grbac, first season winner of reality TV show Project Runway Australia, said inspiration had come from the “glamour of flying in the 1960s” but with a “contemporary edge to fit Virgin Blue’s new brand positioning.”

Virgin Blue released images of the catwalk launch on Facebook. To see more images from the launch, plus other cabin crew pictures, visit seatplans.com/crew.

The news comes on the same day Virgin Blue unveiled its new domestic business class product (see online news February 23), to launch in May on board its new A330 aircraft.
