Morgans prepares Middle East push

23 Feb 2011 by BusinessTraveller

Morgans Hotel Group is to manage a 265-room Mondrian Hotel in Doha which is due to open early 2013.

Located in the West Bay Lagoon, the property - financed by a Qatar-based bank and being developed and owned by one of the members of Qatar’s Royal Family - will contain banqueting and meeting venues, spa, rooftop pool and serve regional and international cuisine.

Marc Gordon, President of Morgans Hotel Group, said there was "every indication" Doha will be a launch pad for further growth in the Middle East.  "It is also consistent with our asset-light strategy of entering into long-term management contracts that expand our brands," he said.

Morgans recently announced management agreements for three new hotels in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; coastal Turkey; and New York City. Both the Turkey and Cabo properties will be branded Delano. The Mondrian Soho in New York is due to open March 1.
