17 Feb 2011

Cathay Pacific (CX) has announced increased frequencies and enhanced capacities on selected popular routes for the summer schedules. CX chief executive Tony Tyler, said: “We are taking the opportunity to add capacity on a number of routes that will further boost connectivity through Hong Kong.”

The airline will increase frequencies to Paris from 11 flights a week to a twice-daily service from March 27 onwards. The additional flights, which operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays using the Boeing B747-400, will fly to Paris via Amsterdam. Flights will depart Hong Kong at 0015 and arrive in Paris at 1000. The return leg, operated on the same days, will depart Paris at 1145 and arrive in Hong Kong at 0705.

Other enhancements being implemented from March 27 include an additional flight to Surabaya per week making it a daily service operating at the same timings as the current services, and the introduction of direct daily services to Penang. Three of the flights that currently fly to Penang via Kuala Lumpur will instead fly direct, departing Hong Kong at 1500 and arriving in Penang at 1835. The return leg will depart Penang at 0745 and arrive back in Hong Kong at 1135.

Effective from July 1 onwards, Cathay Pacific will also increase flights to Milan from four times a week to a daily service. Flights will depart from Hong Kong at 0100 and arrive in Milan at 0750. The return leg will depart from Milan at 1325 and arrive back in Hong Kong at 0700 the following day.

Flights to Jakarta will be bumped up to a thrice-daily service from August 15 operating according to the same timings as the current services.

Finally, the carrier will use the larger B747-400 aircraft for the Hong Kong-Bangkok-Delhi route instead of the Airbus A330-300 in order to boost capacity and meet demand.
