Alitalia enters China with new Rome-Beijing service

8 Feb 2011

Alitalia announced plans to mount flights between Rome and Beijing in early summer this year – the carrier’s first foray into the Chinese market.

Initially, the airiline will operate the route four times a week using an Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

From October 1 onwards, the carrier will bump frequencies up to five times a week.

Alitalia has recently gone through major restructuring after it filed for bankruptcy two years ago. Merging with Italian low-cost carrier Air One, Alitalia launched its new premium economy product – Classica Plus – in March last year on select A330 aircraft (see story here). It is still unclear whether the A330s used on this new route will consist of the new product.
