Jetstar will launch a thrice weekly direct service between Darwin and Manila from February 9, 2011.
The service, using the Airbus A320, targets the Filipino-Australian community, which is the third largest group in Darwin according to Unni Menon, Jetstar head of government and commercial partnerships, as well as enable passengers from Sydney, Melbourne and Cairns access to the Philippines and the rest of Asia via Darwin.
The flight will depart from the Northern Territory capital on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 1900, arriving in Manila at 2140. The return leg will leave Manila on the same days at 2255, arriving in Darwin at 0500.
This new route not only expands the low-cost carrier’s network, but also enhances connectivity between Asia and Australia. Recently, Jetstar extended codeshare agreements with Qantas to provide Australian passengers with greater access to Asian destinations (see story here).
