Lufthansa to serve San Francisco with A380

27 Jan 2011 by BusinessTraveller

Lufthansa will become the first carrier to serve the Californian city of San Francisco with the A380 superjumbo from this May.

The carrier will operate a daily A380 flight into the city from May 10, replacing the Boeing 747-400 currently used on the Frankfurt-San Francisco route.

The flight numbers in question are LH454, departing Frankfurt at 0935 and arriving in San Francisco at 1155, and LH455 leaving California at 1420 and landing back in Frankfurt at 1005 the following day.

Lufthansa currently serves Johannesburg, Beijing and Tokyo with the A380, with New York set to join the fold at the end of February (see online news December 10, 2010).

Lufthansa will be the first airline to serve San Francisco with the superjumbo – the german carrier will also continue to serve the Californian city from Munich with an A340 aircraft.

At present only Qantas flies the A380 to the US West Coast, with services to Los Angeles. Singapore Airlines is also set to serve LA with the superjumbo from the end of March (see online news December 3, 2010).
