Middle East Airlines to join Skyteam

19 Jan 2011 by BusinessTraveller

Lebanon’s flag carrier Middle East Airlines is set to join Skyteam in 2012. The announcement comes just weeks after fellow Middle Eastern carrier Saudi Arabian Airlines announced its intentions to join the alliance.

MEA will finally sign an agreement to start the joining process on February 28, having been in membership discussions with Skyteam for several years.

The Beirut-based airline is the second Middle Eastern carrier sign up to Skyteam, following Saudi Arabian Airlines’ announcement earlier this month (see online news January 11). Both carriers are scheduled to formally join the alliance in 2012.

Other carriers set to join Skyteam over the next couple of years include Garuda Indonesia, Aerolineas Argentinas, China Airlines, China Eastern amd its subsidiary Shanghai Airlines.
