Wyndham Hotels announced yesterday it will open another hotel in China, adding to the long string of pipeline properties the group have developed across the nation - all of which are poised to open over the next two to three years. The new hotel will be located in Chongqing and is scheduled to open in 2014.
The 350-room Wyndham Chongqing North Hotel will be located 30 minutes away from Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport and the railway station. The hotel will be equipped with a total of 1,858 sqm of meeting space, which includes a grand ballroom and seven meeting rooms. For leisure, there will be an indoor swimming pool, gym, spa and three restaurants.
This is the first Wyndham property in Chongqing, however, it is not the first brand belonging to the hotel group; this hotel comes after eight Days Inn, Howard Johnson and Super 8 properties that have already set up shop in Chongqing.
The large US based hotel group accelerated its growth across China last year (see story here) by strategically targeting second-tier cities and filling in gaps in the market with mid-scale accommodation for the growing middle class.
Ken Greene, Wyndham Hotels president and managing director Asia-Pacific, said: “There is a large middle class demographic that is starting to travel more, and that’s where we come in.”
As of now, the group has 270 properties in China alone and 325 across Asia.
