Hilton heads to Queenstown

16 Dec 2010 by AndrewGough

Hilton Worldwide has signed two management agreements that pave the way for its debut in Queenstown, New Zealand.

The two new-build hotels, the Hilton Queenstown and the Kawarau Hotel (to be known as Kawarau Hotel, Managed by Hilton), will expand the group’s portfolio in New Zealand to four when construction finishes in 2011.

The four-star Hilton Queenstown, situated by Lake Wakatipu, will feature 178 guestrooms ranging from 44-52sqm in size. Meetings and event facilities will include two conference rooms (535sqm and 520sqm), two boardrooms and a business centre. It will also have a lakeside restaurant and bar, indoor heated swimming pool, gym and spa with sauna and steam room.

Less is known about the four-star Kawarau Hotel other than that it will have 98 one-bedroom, apartment-style rooms.

Both properties will be approximately 7km from Queenstown’s town centre and 1km from Queenstown Airport.

The Hilton Queenstown and Kawarau Hotel will bolster Hilton’s Kiwi portfolio when they join the Hilton Lake Taupo, which opened a year ago, and the Hilton Auckland.
