Doha airport to unveil new Arrivals terminal

13 Dec 2010 by BusinessTraveller

Qatar Airways-managed Doha International Airport will open a new Arrivals terminal in the next few weeks, as an interim measure while the city’s brand new airport is being constructed.

Work has almost finished on the new Arrivals facility located on the site of the temporary terminal built for the Doha Asian Games in 2006. The terminal building will provide a larger number of immigration belts and counters, Duty Free outlets, a larger meet and greet area, and new bus and taxi stands.

When the facility is opened the existing Main Terminal will be renamed the Departure and Transfer Terminal, and there will be “frequent shuttle buses” between the buildings for those who have parked in the Main Terminal.

The new Arrivals building will in turn allow existing arrivals facilities attached to the main building to be converted into expanded departure and transfer facilities, with the work expected to take several months to complete.

But this work is all just an interim solution to “enable the airport to continue its efficient operation as it prepares for the opening of the New Doha International Airport”, the first phase of which is scheduled to open in 2012.

New Doha International Airport released several CGI images of the fothcoming facility last year – to see these click here.
