Aer Lingus and Etihad Airways are preparing to transfer operations over to Dublin Airport’s new Terminal 2 facilities following its official opening today (November 19).
Testing has been underway at the €600 million facilities since October, while Aer Lingus has for the last week been running “proving flights” as it readies itself for a full transfer of all scheduled services in January.
But the first scheduled traffic to Dublin T2 will come from Etihad on November 23, which will then operate exclusively from the terminal.
US flights will also operate from T2 with US Customs and Borders authorities confirming a move there in the New Year.
The overall project includes the new passenger terminal, “Pier E” boarding gate facility, energy centre and aircraft parking stands, as well as a major upgrade to the airport’s internal road network.
Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) said in April that it expected around 400 new retail jobs to be created at T2, with 40 shops, restaurants and bars covering 9,000sqm of terminal floor space.
