Birmingham airport shuts following accident

A light aircraft has crashed at Birmingham airport forcing authorities to suspend all flights, it is being reported.

All inbound and outbound flights are subject to delays or cancellations, with many showing as being diverted.

The airport said in a statement:

“Following an incident at the airport, all flights are currently suspended and the runway is closed. If you are due to travel this evening please contact your airline for further guidance.”

The incident involved a privately-owned Cessna light aircraft, a Press Association report said.
