Delta Air Lines aims to expand significantly in Asia, which has generated 50 percent of its recent revenue growth.
The carrier has just applied with the US Department of Transportation to start up new routes to Beijing and Guangzhou and expand services to Shanghai and Manila.
“International business travel demand is the underpinning of the global economic recovery,” said Glen Hauenstein, Delta's executive vice president – Network Planning, Revenue Management and Marketing. Double-digit growth in most business markets throughout the world, he added, also contributed for new activity.
Hauenstein said their 2011 plan also saw increased flights to London Heathrow and their fellow Skyteam members’ gateways at Paris Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol. “Delta recently affirmed that its capacity will increase between 1 percent and 3 percent in 2011 – consistent with projected global economic growth."
