The US Department of Transportation and the European Commission have granted Delta’s request for new flights from Heathrow to Boston and Miami, both due to commence in March next year.
As reported earlier this year (see online news August 27), Skyteam member Delta had applied for slots freed up by the BA-American Airlines transatlantic tie-up, with the carrier arguing that Skyteam currently holds the smallest number of slots at Heathrow.
With the go-ahead now given the carrier will launch daily flights to both US destinations from March 28, 2011. The new routes will be operated “within the scope of Delta’s transatlantic joint venture with Air France KLM and Alitalia”, and final flight schedules and fares are set to be announced next week.
