Premier Inn has announced it will open a new hotel in London’s Leicester Square.
A £6 million investment will see the former Queen’s Hotel, currently an office block, be returned to its original use.
The 84-bedroom hotel will open in the Spring of 2012. After the refurbishment, all rooms will have air conditioning and wifi internet access, and in the lobby 24-hour automated check-in kiosks will be installed.
Built in 1897, the Portland stone building is located on the north side of the square, next to the Empire Cinema.
The casino, restaurant and nightclub currently operating in the building will remain.
Derek Griffin, head of acquisitions for Whitbread – Greater London, said: “This is a truly outstanding location and to secure it for Premier Inn guests is fantastic news. This hotel will give budget-conscious visitors to the capital a chance to stay in London’s entertainment heart.”
Leicester Square will see significant redevelopment in time for the Olympics, with the opening of London’s first W hotel set for February 14, 2011.
