Iberia will launch routes from Madrid to LA and Barcelona to Miami, and will increase frequencies on other key US routes. But its Madrid-Washington service will cease at the end of this month.
The Spanish carrier announced plans to start flying between Madrid and LA when it officially launched the transatlantic joint venture with BA and American Airlines earlier this month (see online news October 6), and yesterday Iberia confirmed it would commence transatlantic services from Barcelona to both Miami and Sao Paulo next year (see online news October 18).
The airline has now confirmed that it will also increase frequency on its Madrid-Boston route to six flights per week between May and October 2011 (compared to between three and five weekly frequencies for the same period this year), and will add three more weekly flights to its Madrid-New York service in July and August 2011, taking the route to 14 flights per week over this period.
In addition Iberia will roster its A340-600 aircraft onto its Madrid-Chicago route, resulting in an increased capacity of 100 seats compared with the A340-300 aircraft currently plying the route.
The changes will result in a 13 per cent increase in available Iberia seats between Spain and the US next year. However the carrier has taken the decision to cancel its Madrid-Washington Dulles service from the end of this month, with the last flight operating on October 29.
