SWISS to introduce revamped business class cabin on Hong Kong-Zurich route

15 Oct 2010

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) will utilise the Airbus A340-300 with a new-look business class cabin on its daily nonstop service between Hong Kong and Zurich by the end of October – the first Asian destination to see the new business class on this European carrier.

Swiss' premier cabin has a total of 47 seats split into two compartments, boasting unique configurations to maximise space and enable 42 seats direct aisle access. The cabin's "quiet zone", located between the first class and the galley section, has nine seats arranged in two rows — one in a 1-2-1 and the other in a 2-2-1 configuration. The main business class compartment, with its 38 seats, also features this alternating 1-2-1 and 2-2-1 row configuration that allows for more legroom and working space

The seat spans the length of two metres and can recline fully to a flat bed. It has built-in massage functions and air-cushions that can be adjusted for increased or decreased firmness. It is also equipped with multipurpose sockets, USB ports and a 12.1-inch personal screen with AVOD function.

SWISS has a total of 15 A340-300s with the latest products, some of which are currently being used on flights between Zurich and San Francisco and will soon be rolled out on routes to Tokyo, Shanghai and Bangkok by mid-2011. The new A330-300 aircraft, which flies between Mumbai and Zurich, is already fitted with the new business class.

The entire A340 fleet will be equipped with the business class cabin by mid-2011.
