Hotel Fort Canning is Singapore's newest boutique property

Hotel Fort Canning opens in Singapore in October this year. Consisting of 86 rooms and suites, it adds to the slew of boutique hotels that have sprouted in the city over the past 18 months.

The colonial style building, now housing the hotel, was was once used by the British Far East Command during the second World War. Its multi-column facade has been retained and exacting attention has been given to detail, from the availability of mineral water swimming pools and iPads to easy access to the staff who can be contacted via SMS, email or telephone.

Business is catered to with two ballrooms for conferences: the 460-seater Legends Ballroom and the 230-seater Lavender Ballroom, which can be partitioned into smaller meeting rooms. Pre-event cocktails or activities can be held in the historical "Battle Box" World War II bunker where ceremonies surrendering Singapore to Japan in 1942 took place.

Hotel Fort Canning also consists of a gym, a 24-hour Private Lounge and two restaurants – the Glass House and Gattopardo.

Special opening rates start from SG$275 (US$204) for a Deluxe room until December 31.

Other boutique hotels in Singapore include Capella, Quincy, Klapsons, Wangz, Hotel Re!@Pearl's Hill, The Club and the Fullerton Bay Hotel, which opened in July this year.
