Travel time between Shanghai and Hangzhou will shrink further with the new high-speed railway poised for operation in October 2010.
This latest addition to China's rapidly expanding rail infrastructure will cut off 40 minutes of the current journey time by express train, linking the two cities in 38 minutes. The project began construction in early 2009 and cost CNY29 billion (US$4.2 billion).
Ticket prices have still to be announced.
