With the first Hotel Indigo in Asia-Pacific set to open in Shanghai this September, IHG forges ahead with plans to expand its upscale boutique hotel brand in the region with a 188-room property in Bangkok targeted for opening in 2012. Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road will be a new-build hotel in one of Bangkok's premier lifestyle districts. Wireless Road is the known as the city's diplomatic row, site of high-end residences and premium commercial and retail outlets. The hotel will be able to offer a range of entertainment and dining options around the area as well as easy access to public transportation with its proximity to the BYS Ploenchit Station. "Bangkok is a strong market for boutique hotel products," said Jan Smits, managing director of IHG Asia Australasia. "Hotel Indigo offers an intimate, boutique experience with the added benefits of being part of a large international hotel company. Hotel Indigo Bangkok is expected to follow the brand philosophy and is being designed to reflect the local culture, character and history. Hospitality design specialist HBA has been tapped to collaborate with local architecture firm A49 to create the hotel's look and feel. Besides the 188 guestrooms, the hotel will have a specialty restaurant and bar, a business centre, meeting facilities, swimming pool, a spa and a fitness centre. "This is a great opportunity to introduce a fresh new hotel brand into the Thai market," said Yoauvaluk Piyasombatkul, managing director of Piyasombat Property Co, which is Hotel Indigo Bangkok's owning company. To date, IHG has signed six Hotel Indigo properties in Asia, providing a solid platform for the brand's growth in the region. For more information, visit www.hotelindigo.com Gigi Onag
