The Hilton Chongqing was shut down over the weekend by authorities investigating a prostitution ring, according to reports today in the Beijing Daily and Shanghai Daily.
Police in this southwestern Chinese city rounded up over a hundred people in the hotel, suspected of syndicate involvement. The management declined to comment on the incident, except to say through a receptionist that they would resume business on July 6, 2010.
Developer Qinglong Property is the owner of the centrally located hotel.
This is not the first time Hilton Chongqing has caught the attention of law enforcers, noted local newspapers. In last year's crackdown on criminal activities, it also received warnings from the police.
