SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines (SIA), has expanded its Indian network by adding a daily Singapore-Chennai route.
Flight MI436 takes off from Terminal 2 of Changi Airport at 1345 and touches down at Chennai International Airport at 1530. The return flight MI435 leaves Chennai at 1615 and arrives in the Lion City at 2245. Journey time between the two destinations is approximately four hours and 20 minutes.
"This new service will complement SIA's existing services, thus giving our customers more flexibility and choice of schedules [for customers travelling from the US, Europe, Australia, Malaysia and Indonesia]," said SilkAir chief executive Chin Yau Seng.
For SilkAir passengers from Chennai, the new service offers direct flights to Singapore and the conveniencemof onward connections to more than 90 overseas destinations in the joint SIA-SilkAir network. With SIA existing daily flights to the city, the SIA Group of airlines now offers two daily flights between the two cities.
Chennai located on the Coromandel coast is the primary gateway to South India. It is the capital city of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a dynamic destination known for its rich culture and long history with landmarks such as Fort St George, Kamaraj Memorial House, MGR Memorial and the Thousand Lights Mosque
SilkAir started serving the Indian market in 1999. It now flies to six points in the country, including Thiruvananthapuram, Bangalore, Kochi, Hyderabad, Coimbatore and Chennai.
