Visa pitches in to get Thailand back on track

13 Jun 2010

Visa and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) have teamed up for several “return-to-business-as-usual” initiatives, kicked off by the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale from June 15 to August 15, 2010.

One of the programmes, "Win What You Buy", focuses especially on Ratchaprasong in Bangkok, which was shut down for several weeks due to occupation by anti-government factions. Malls and other commercial establishments suffered the most from the incident and are trying to get back on their feet. The promotion, which runs from June 16 to 30, promises that for every transaction made on a Visa card, card holders will stand a one of 150 chance to win back the value of their shopping bill of up to THB10,000 (US$335).

On a wider scale, Visa card holders can enjoy between 5 to 80 percent discounts and other privileges from participating merchants in the capital city and other key cities throughout Thailand. They can also redeem a special gift at the Visa booth located at King Power Duty Free at Suvarnabhumi Airport (departure only) and at Chiangmai and Phuket airports when they spend THB5,000 (US$153.90) on a single receipt on any internationally-issued Visa card.

Also, for every THB500 (US$15.4) spent using a Visa card, cardholders will receive two lucky draw coupons for a chance to the win the grand prize of THB1,000,000 (US$30,335).
