Delta increases Heathrow-New York frequency

11 May 2010 by BusinessTraveller

Delta Air Lines is to add a third daily flight between London Heathrow and New York JFK from this September.

The new service will commence on September 20, using Boeing 767-400ER aircraft featuring the carrier’s fully flat bed in business class. The flight will depart London at 1230, (existing services leave at 1005 and 1705), with the return leg departing New York at 2305 (adding to the existing 1845 and 2100 services).

“With the economy rebounding we continue to see corporate travel demand improve across our network, particularly to New York,” said Perry Cantarutti, Delta’s senior vice president – Europe, the Middle East and Africa. “Thanks to the strength of our joint venture with Air France KLM, our customers flying from London can look forward to three daily flights to New York City, as well as more connections via JFK to both domestic US and international destinations.”

Skyteam member Delta recently reinstated its Manchester-New York service, having temporarily dropped the route at the start of this year (see online news October 22, 2009). London Heathrow and Manchester are now the only two UK airports served by Delta to New York, since the carrier ceased flights from Gatwick in 2008, and from Edinburgh in 2009. The airline continues to serve Atlanta from London Gatwick.

Delta says it will introduce new or expanded services to “nearly 30 cities” from New York City by autumn this year, with expanded routes including Brussels, Shannon, Manchester, Amsterdam, Cairo, Istanbul, Milan, Moscow, Nice, Athens, Tel Aviv and Tokyo, as well as new services to Copenhagen and Stockholm.
