W Hotels heads to UAE capital

4 May 2010 by AndrewGough

Starwood has announced plans to open a W Hotel in Abu Dhabi, signalling the design-led brand’s debut in the UAE.

An agreement with UAE-based corporation Belbadi paves the way for the W Abu Dhabi’s opening in 2013 as part of a larger leisure, retail and residential development overlooking the city’s marina.

The hotel’s 350 rooms will include 25 suites and two of W Hotels’ trademark “Extreme Wow” suites. A spa with 12 treatment rooms will also be available to guests, as well as three restaurants, lounge and rooftop nightclub.

The W Abu Dhabi will also have more than 1,050sqm of meeting and event space, plus a full-service "WIRED" business centre.

W Hotels is set to add London (see online news December 12), Paris and now Abu Dhabi to its global portfolio over the next two years in a “continued commitment” to expand into the world’s major cities.

The W Abu Dhabi will be Starwood’s third W in the Middle East, following from the W Doha which opened last year (see online news March 11), and the W Amman slated to open in 2012.
