St Giles purchases W New York properties

18 Apr 2010 by BusinessTraveller

London-based St Giles Hotel Group has bought the W Court Hotel and W Tuscany Hotel in New York from Starwood Hotels.

The two properties will now be renamed  St Giles – The Court New York, and St Giles – The Tuscany New York, and will add to the group’s mid-market hotels in central London and Feltham, Heathrow.

St Giles said that guests “will see very little change to the structure of the spacious accommodations; however, there will be stylish and functional décor added to guestrooms and suites”. Both properties will also see changes to the food and beverage offerings in the near future.

The two properties are located on 39th Street, and were among the first hotels to join Starwood’s trendy W Hotels brand back in 1999. The sale of the hotels to St Giles for US$78 million leaves W with four properties in the New York area: W New York, W New York - Times Square, W New York - Union Square and W Hoboken. The 217-room W New York – Downtown is also due to join the portfolio this summer.

St Giles Hotel Group is a subsidiary of Asian company Cititel Hotel Management (CHM Hotels), which owns and manages properties in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Manila, with plans for further hotels in Bangkok and Sydney among other cities.
