Businesstraveller.com brings you the latest travel gadgets and accessories to make life on the road easier. This week: Firebrand pocket projector, Samsung HD camcorders, Ixos USB speakers and the Samsung Jet Ultra phone. Also, Toptable’s iPhone app.
Pocket projectors from Firebrand
Promotions merchandising company Firebrand is offering businesses the chance to buy these impressive little portable projectors, measuring no more than 11cm on the longest edge and weighing just 340g. The white label devices, which can be branded with a customer’s logo, aren’t officially available to the public but can be purchased through Firebrand’s website. These are by no means a replacement for your office powerpoint projector, but with a projection distance of 2.4m, they’re not far off. Zoom and focus is manual, and resolution fairly low, but they work with iPhones and any playback device with standard RCA connections. An optional tripod is available and advisable.
PRICE £199. Tripod available separately.
Ixos Oyster USB speakers
The Ixos Oyster USB speakers, aimed at business travellers, are designed to magnetically clip together so they can be stored away easily and conveniently. The two inch Neodymium driver units can run off rechargeable batteries when connected to an MP3 player, or via the USB port on a laptop or netbook, for example. The speakers connect to a standard 3.5mm audio jack, which makes them compatible with pretty much any audio playback device.
Samsung Jet Ultra
The Samsung Jet Ultra edition is now available in the UK through O2. The Jet Ultra is an update to an earlier model, and now boasts integrated social networking, BBC iPlayer and an “on demand” TV widget. Active Sync allows it to be synchronised with Googlemail or Outlook, and it has a very respectable five megapixel camera. The 800MHz processor also allows for multi-tasking, such as browsing while listening to music.
PRICE Free with a £25 O2 contract.
Samsung H-Series Full-HD Camcorders
Samsung has introduced four new full-HD digital camcorders, the HMX-H200, HMX-203, HMX-H204, and HMX-H205. Each boasts a long list of advanced features, such as Solid State Drives (SSDs). SSDs, for the uninitiated, have no moving parts unlike their traditional HDD cousins, and so are more durable. Read/write speeds are also much faster with SSDs, resulting in improved performance and boot-up times, and they’re lighter. SSD size depends on the model, ranging from 8GB in the H203 to 32GB in the H205. The camcorders also have a 20x optical zoom and a 37mm wide-angle lens.

App of the week
Toptable iPhone app
This week we feature the new iPhone app from Toptable, the restaurant review, booking and deal website. The app itself is now available to download for free, and features “table reality” which allows users, through their iPhone, to see their way to restaurants (pictured). There’s also a tip calculator (for those who didn’t pay attention in maths class) and a ‘my sommelier’ feature for advice on which wines to have with which meals.
