Bangalore and Chennai will join SilkAir’s route network in the next two months.
Singapore Airline’s subsidiary will offer daily flights between Singapore and Bangalore, capital of Karnataka state and dubbed "Silicon Valley of India" from May 17, 2010. Then, it will mount from June 14, 2010, daily flights to Chennai (Madras), capital of Tamil Nadu and base of a diverse group of industries from automobile to healthcare.
An Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft will be used on the routes.
The two cities' buoyant economic growth offers favourable prospects for business traffic and commercial cargo for the carrier.
SilkAir began operations to India in June 1999 and currently serves Kochi (daily), Hyderabad (daily), Thiruvananthapuram (three times weekly) and Coimbatore (three times weekly).
