Studio M duplex targets "smart" business travellers

8 Mar 2010

A new all-duplex hotel concept, targeted at a technologically more demanding generation of business travellers, will open in Singapore in April, 2010

The 365-room Studio M is the brainchild of the Millennium & Copthorne Hotels (M&C) group. With Italian-designed interiors and spaces, and a high degree of wireless services throughout, the new brand is aimed to appeal to guests who value style and functional technology.

“Guests can request information on dining and entertainment options that can be immediately sent to their communication devices such as iPhones, iPods and laptops. This is just one of many unique guest experiences we plan to provide,” said Ng Chee Theam, chief operating officer Asia, of Millennium & Copthorne International, the Singapore subsidiary of M&C.

Studio M has four room types; Studio Loft, Premier Loft, Executive Loft and Patio Loft. The all-duplex rooms, which start at 22sqm in size, offer guests separate and distinct areas to work and relax.

Studio M is located beside the trendy Robertson Quay and Mohamed Sultan entertainment and dining districts and offers three food and beverage outlets; an Italian cafe, a Japanese restaurant and a Thai bar and grill.

There is an open-air tropical deck with wading pools and a 25m lap-pool, the space also offers private booths for business discussions. “Studio M represents a new facet to the hospitality landscape in Singapore," said Kwek Leng Beng, chairman of M&C. "The concept of smart business travel is evolving rapidly. There is increasing demand from this largely untapped market segment that craves a distinctive and unique experience from their hotel, even as they demand functional services like wireless connectivity. Studio M aims to fill this gap."

He added that the company aimed to take the brand into other markets and that enquiries had already been received from the Middle East.

Opening rates for a Studio Loft are S$180 (US$128) for weekdays and S$160 (US$114) for weekends.
