Macau has signed an agreement with Japan allowing Air Macau to start a three-times-a-week international route to Narita International Airport from March 28, 2010.
Under the agreement, aviation authorities in Macau and Japan can agree landing rights for several airlines and multiple destinations. The only constraint is capacity for flights to Tokyo operated by Macau airlines.
Currently Air Macau has a daily Macau-Osaka route, and low-cost carrier Viva Macau has four weekly roundtrip flights to Tokyo.
Japan is now Macau’s fourth largest source market in Asia.
Macau is a favourite destination for gaming and leisure markets but it has also targeted Japan’s corporate events sector to bring meetings and incentives groups to the Chinese territory.
