Manchester helps proposal passengers

12 Feb 2010 by Mark Caswell

Manchester airport is helping passengers intending to propose to their partners on romantic trips over Valentine’s, by keeping the engagement ring a secret during security searches.

Any passengers worried that a security search will give the game away can whisper “Be My Valentine” to the staff member, who will then perform a private search behind a privacy screen.

The service is available between Friday February 12 and Monday February 15, at Terminals 1 and 3 (body scanners are now in operation at Terminal 2).

A statement for the airport advises:

“If you are planning on storing an engagement ring in your hand luggage please be aware that this is subject to inspection by security staff before you can head through to the departure lounge.

“This can include a full examination of carry-on items in front of passengers so don’t forget to use the code words to avoid you having to have an impromptu proposal in the security search area!”
