Seaplane flights to link Shenzen to Macau and Guangzhou

7 Jan 2010

Busy travellers will soon have the option of air travel when doing business in the Pearl River Delta region in southern China.

Hongkong-based Waterfront Air and Shenzhen Airport Ferry Terminal Services Company, a subsidiary of the Shenzhen Airport Company, have signed a memorandum of understanding to provide seaplane services from the Shenzhen Airport ferry pier to Macau and Guangzhou.

Flights are set to begin in the fourth quarter of this year, using a fleet of DHC-6 Twin Otter floatplanes which can seat up to 18 passengers each.

Waterfront Air is also pressing for approval to start scheduled flights between Hongkong via the new Kai Tak waterfront aerodrome and Macau via the Pak On ferry terminal near the bustling Cotai Strip. The company hopes seaplane flights on this route to take off by 2011.
