Japan Airlines and Vietnam Airlines expand codeshare agreement

7 Jan 2010

With the suspension of its once-daily service between Osaka (Kansai) and Hanoi on Monday, January 11, Japan Airlines (JAL) has expanded its codeshare agreement with Vietnam Airlines to include air services between the two cities.

The new codeshare flights will take off on January 13 with JAL selling round-trip Osaka (Kansai) - Hanoi tickets on Vietnam Airlines-operated flights.

Currently, JAL is offering code share flights on four routes operated by Vietnam Airlines: Osaka (Kansai) - Ho Chi Minh, Fukuoka - Ho Chi Minh, Fukuoka - Hanoi and Nagoya (Chubu) - Hanoi.

The expanded codeshare deal enables the beleaguered Japanese carrier to maintain convenient connection to the popular Vietnamese city. It also allows JAL to keep a network of seven routes with 33 weekly round-trip flights to the country. (JAL operates its own flights from Tokyo (Narita) to Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi.)

The new codeshare flights will fly between Osaka (Kansai) and Hanoi five times a week - Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Saturday and Sunday. Flight JL5126 (VN944) will take off from Hanoi at 0030 with arrival in Kansai at 0630. Turn-around flight JL5125 (VN945) will depart Kansai at 1100 with arrival in Hanoi at 1445.
