Jumeirah to open Hangzhou property

Luxury hotel group Jumeirah is to manage a 250-room hotel in the Chinese city of Hangzhou, situated around one hour from Shanghai.

The property is the fifth management agreement for Jumeirah in China, and will be located in Hangzhou’s central business district,  Qianjiang River New Town. Architects Skidmore Owings and Merril will be responsible for the hotel’s design, which will incorporate “water terraces, bamboo groves and canals”.

Other Jumeirah hotels currently under development in China include the Qing Shui Bay Resort in Sanya, HanTang Xintiandi in Shanghai, and properties in Guangzhou and the special administrative region of Macau.

Jumeirah recently announced a property for Panama (see online news November 27, 2009), and is due to open its first German property in Frankfurt later this year (see online news April 29, 2009).
