Competitive fares will be offered by SIA when it links Manchester with Munich at the end of March.
This unusual routing for SIA has come about because of SIA’s decision to operate its long-standing Manchester-Singapore service via Munich rather than, as at present, non-stop.
Fares were unavailable at the time we announced details of the service (see online news December 15, 2009) but Business Traveller can now reveal that SIA will have attractive rates in economy and business class.
According to SIA’s website, the carrier will be charging flat rates of £87 one-way from Manchester with a return priced at £157. Business class will cost £357 and £601 return respectively. By contrast first class is priced at a costly £759 and £1,271.
SIA will operate five B777-300ER flights a week on the route. These planes are configured with the carrier’s most up-to-date premium products. SIA will be competing with Lufthansa which flies three times a day and Easyjet which flies five times a week.
Lufthansa and Easyjet price according to when you book and when you travel. During April, Lufthansa has return economy class rates ranging between £98 and £223 with business class offered from £666 to £1,047. Currently Easyjet typically charges upwards of £75 return during April but its prices will rise nearer departure time.
Although Lufthansa has the most convenient schedules there are still advantages in flying SIA. A big selling point is service quality in all classes and the luxury of sampling a fully-flat business class seat in a spacious four-across (1-2-1) layout on the wide-bodied B777-300ER.
Readers who find one of SIA’s flight sectors inconvenient might prefer to ‘mix and match.’ That is you would buy a one-way ticket so as to use Lufthansa or Easyjet for the outward or return sector.
Flights will operate daily except Tuesday and Thursday. SQ328 departs Manchester at 0920 to reach Munich at 1335. Inbound service SQ337 leaves Munich at 0635 to arrive in Manchester at 0800.
