Emirates starts A380 Paris service; Jeddah to follow

5 Jan 2010 by Mark Caswell

Emirates has become the third carrier to serve Paris with the A380, and will also roster the superjumbo on to its Jeddah route from February.

The A380 is replacing Emirates’ 777-300ER aircraft previously serving flight EK073, departing Dubai at 0800 and arriving into Paris at 1225, before returning as EK074 at 1430, landing back into Dubai at 2359. The superjumbo is initially being rostered on to flights on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, before moving to a daily service from January 17.

The carrier’s second daily service to Paris (EK075/76) will continue to be served by 777-200 aircraft. Emirates is the third carrier to serve Paris with the superjumbo, after Singapore Airlines (see online news January 18, 2009) and Air France (see online news July 30, 2009).

Meanwhile Emirates has announced that it will become the first carrier to serve Saudi Arabia with the A380, commencing February 1. The four times weekly flight to Jeddah will depart Dubai on Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday at 1630, arriving at 1830, with the return leg leaving Jeddah at 2045, landing back into Dubai at 0015.

Jeddah will be the eighth A380 destination for Emirates, joining Sydney, Auckland, London, Bangkok, Toronto, Seoul and Paris. The carrier had also previously served New York with the superjumbo, but this service was replaced with 777-300ER aircraft on June 1 last year (see online news March 17, 2009).
