BA granted injunction to prevent strike

17 Dec 2009 by Sara Turner

The High Court has granted BA an injunction to prevent the 12-day strike which had been due to commence on December 22.

In a statement British Airways said, “There never was any need for a strike and we hope that Unite will take this opportunity to reflect before deciding its next steps. We believe the public would want that too.”

Unite has called the decision "a disgraceful day for democracy", and added that "BA must accept that there can be no resolution except through negotiation, failing which there will inevitably be a further ballot for industrial action".

If Unite does not appeal and calls off the planned strike, it could mean members being reballoted with the possibility of the strike action being taken early in the New Year.

The latest statements from both BA and Unite can be read on our forum.
