Etihad to strengthen Abu Dhabi-Frankfurt service

12 Nov 2009 by AndrewGough

Etihad Airways is set to increase the number of flights from Abu Dhabi to Frankfurt in December before going twice daily next year.

The United Arab Emirates’ flag carrier will increase flights on the route from ten to 13 per week from December 12, before further expanding the route to 14 per week from March 28, 2010 onwards.

Currently Etihad flies from Abu Dhabi to Frankfurt daily at 1335 arriving at 1750, with an additional service on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 0205. Return flights from Frankfurt leave daily at 2210 arriving at 0725 the next day, plus additional services Wed/Fri/Sun at 1450.

The new schedule will see two daily Abu Dhabi-Frankfurt services at 0140 arriving 0630, and 1305 arriving 1750. Return flights will leave Frankfurt at 1115 arriving 1930, and 2305 touching down at 0730 the following day.

The route is currently served by three-class A330-200s, offering ten seats in first class, 26 in business and 164 in economy.

Etihad said the Frankfurt service was one its most popular flights, drawing high volumes of traffic into Abu Dhabi plus passengers transiting on to destinations such as Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Sydney.

“Abu Dhabi’s geographical location makes it ideal as a gateway for air travellers from Germany to connect to Australia, the Far East and throughout the Middle East easily and quickly,” said Etihad’s chief executive James Hogan.
