Hilton Shanghai, currently the address of the week-long 2009 Shanghai ATP Masters, is finally putting its never-been used helipad to good use.
Given the green light by the security conscious Shanghai authorities, the 21-year-old-hotel has opened up the facility on its 43rd level to event and meeting planners.
The first official function took place on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 in the “Meet the Masters” cocktail which brought together the players and sponsors in a convivial setting of cocktails and photo opportunities.
Hotel general manager Guy Hutchinson said that fierce competition in a city that’s gearing up for the mega World Expo Shanghai 2010 has ramped up the creative efforts of his team, “And having a really signature events space (like this helipad), which is so fundamentally different and more interesting than what you would find anywhere else, will help drive occupancy in our other meeting rooms.
“The needs of business travellers are evolving very fast, and we have to keep up with them. They’re always looking for unique meeting activities and places, so we have to come to the market (regularly) with unique product proposals. This is certainly it."
The helipad measures around 300sqm and can accommodate between 50 and 100 guests for both cocktails and sit-down dinner style. Weddings and product launches can also be arranged.
