Star Alliance airlines offer north Asian discounts

2 Sep 2009
Star Alliance has launched a multi-carrier Circle North Asia Fare for flights between the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Japan and South Korea.

The fare is valid on Air China, ANA, Asiana and Shanghai Airlines for flights between all three countries. Macau and Hongkong, both special administrative regions of the PRC, are included in the deal.

To qualify for the fares, travel needs to include all three countries, have at least three stopovers and begin and end in the same country.

Fares vary according to class of travel: First, Business or Economy and distance travelled: 4,800 or 6,600 miles. Tickets can be booked and issued through any Star Alliance member airline or through travel agent.

Sample fares from Hongkong for the 6,600 miles option are HK$22,240 (US$2,870) for first class travel, HK$16,760 (US$2,162) in business and HK$10,560 (US$1,362) in economy.

In another promotion, the airline grouping is also offering Hongkong residents instant Gold and Silver status in selected Star Alliance Frequent Flyer Programmes (FFP), provided they have equivalent status in a non-Star Alliance FFP and book and fly on a Star Alliance Flight before December 15.

Participating FFPs are Aeroplan (Air Canada), Airpoints (Air New Zealand), ANA Mileage Club (ANA), Asiana Club (Asiana), Crane Club (Shanghai Airlines), Diamond Club (bmi), Dividend Miles (US Airways), EGYPTAIR Plus (EGYPTAIR), Euro Bonus (Blue1 & Scandinavian Airlines), KrisFlyer (Singapore Airlines), Mileage Plus (United), Miles & More (Adria, Austrian, Croatia, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa & SWISS), Miles & Smiles (Turkish Airlines), Royal Orchid Plus (THAI), Spanair Plus (Spanair), Victoria (TAP Portugal) and Voyager (South African Airways).

In order to qualify for this promotion, customers need to register at: www.staralliance.com/hongkong and follow the online instructions. The matched status will be valid for at least 12 months during which the customer will have time to re-qualify for either Star Alliance Gold or Silver status.
