Closer economic co-operation and business ties have pushed Thailand and China to open direct air and sea routes between Thailand and Nanning city in Guangxi province to expand trade and investment.
Deputy Commerce Minister Alongkorn Ponlaboot said Thailand and China had agreed to open a direct flight between Thailand and Nanning, the capital and commercial centre of Guangxi, in addition to the current Thai Airways International flight between Bangkok and Guilin, a major tourist city in Guangxi.
The move comes as a result of Thailand joining the Pan-Beibu Gulf (PBG) Economic Co-operation community.
The PBG covers the Chinese southern provinces of Guangxi, Hainan, Guangdong and six Asean members on the Beibu Gulf, or Gulf of Tonkin: Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and Brunei.
