Shanghai Pudong and Hongqiao Airports are 45 and 20 minutes away by car respectively. An offsite business centre on Nanjing Road downtown provides meetings spaces. Shanghai’s @Gallery Suites is the first of 20 art-concept hotels planned within the next five years in Asia, including China, Hongkong, Singapore and Taiwan. IVY When’s it open? September 2008 Where is it? Managed by CHI International, this boutique hotel in Jing An District is within walking distance of bustling Nanjing West Road for shopping and business. Pudong International Airport is a 45-minute ride away. Fast facts: Converted from a 1950s cinema, the building now houses 46 rooms and suites showcasing American-French designer Dillon Garris’ interplay of ancient and modern Chinese design: funky lipstick-red lattice screens, grey brick walls reminiscent of Shanghai lanes and Chinese pop art. Guests are provided with high-speed wireless internet, turndown service and heated flooring during winter among others. Kuromatsu serves up Japanese meals, while a coffee bar and Wi-Fi lounge offer relaxation and web surfing in a sky-lit atrium. Ke Tang Jian When’s it open? Third quarter of 2009 Where is it? Fast facts: Exclusivity comes in the form of two units on separate floors, with a choice of king-size and twin beds. Each unit has a bedroom with an en-suite kitchenette and a bathtub in room, and is equipped with wireless broadband internet, LCD TV and IDD phone. Outside meal catering, laundry/dry cleaning and massage services can be arranged, and a rooftop area is available for private parties. The Langham Yangtze Boutique When’s it open? Beautifully restored from a 1930s Art-Deco building, the hotel offers 96 rooms furnished with a minibar, broadband internet connection, flat-screen TV and a big bathroom among others. June 2008 Where is it? Situated in Pudong’s Lujiazui Financial Trade Zone, this boutique hotel is 10 minutes’ drive from Shanghai New International Expo Center and 10 minutes from Xintiandi entertainment district. (Coincidentally, Hong is the hotel owner’s surname.) There are 99 internet-enabled guestrooms – of which, 15 are themed “Audrey Hepburn”, “Chanel” (pictured right), “China Red”, “Hello Kitty” and so on. Onsite facilities include an all-day dining area and a Wi-Fi-enabled meeting room for up to 100 people.
